Savage Tutus

Posted in Miscellaneous with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on June 28, 2013 by MontanaDesigns

Hi All,

I got a little stuck for what to sew as I left a lot of my sewing at home (I blog from my Js house), I saw some tutorials on how to make no sew tutus. All you have to do is cut strips of light fabric and tie to some ribbon, I used a strip of jersey fabric as I didn’t have any ribbon to hand.

I did 2 two-tune versions and I ripped some of the material so it looks rough.

Here’s just one of the many tutorials that show you how easy they are to make

I changed it to a red and black tutu to see the outcome.

When I do get ribbon I’ll make more.

I hope your all having a crafty weekend!

Hipster Top Refashion

Posted in Sewing with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on June 22, 2013 by MontanaDesigns

Hi All,

I recently made this top from an oversized T shirt (I had a “before” pic but my phones not functioning at the moment), as you may have noticed I have gotten really into upcycling clothes lately.

So here are the photos of said upcycle.

Cool slogan.

Cool slogan.

I named this a hipster top because of the slogan on it, enough said.

Fringing on both sides.

Fringing on both sides.

I’m hoping to make a few more of these, I’ve started another one with the sides cut out.

Here’s a little tutorial:

1. Cut the sleeves, sides and hem off.

2. Cut above bust of t shirt

3. Sewing side seams wrong sides together and fringe.

4. Hem top edge.

5. Find the centre and snipe an opening.

6. Using the hem trim, cut that open and fold length ways.

7. Use a safety pin to thread through the top opening you have made.

Then you’ll have your refashion top 🙂

I hope you’re all having a great weekend!

Go Go Power Rangers!

Hi All,

I have been day dreaming of making a big collection of super hero/geeky summer dresses.

I remember J telling me about a Power Rangers pillow case and quilt cover set he had as a kid, he pulled them out last week and the rest is (almost) history.

Here they are in their original state:

Here is what I’ve made so far:

This folds down so it can be worn as a skirt, multi functional!

Hood Rat Dress (Cont.)

Posted in Sewing with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on June 4, 2013 by MontanaDesigns

Hi All,

I am pretty much finished with this experiment now, all I have to is machine sew most of it and figure out how I’ll do my blog initials like those college hoodies. Thanks for that idea craftysorcha!

So I thought a rough idea straight onto the dress, I may use fabric paint. Then again I can buy iron/sew on letters for a decent look.

I have played around with some ideas for decorating it, more ideas woud be fantastic!

I’m pleased at how it’s went but the top of the zip is bothering me a bit

Another problem with this is, over time, this dress could stretch out of shape. I don’t really mind fixing it up as it’s a unique remake I guess.

I have another oversized hoodie, I’m thinking of turning that into a skirt somehow with this tutorial

The ‘Hood Rat’ Dress

Hi All,

J gave me a hoody that was far too big for him so I could chop it up and make something new.

I decided to make a dress from it, so far (almost) so good. I’ve been attempting to use what ever I cut off from the hoody, the sleeves I can use at a later date.

Here are some photos of the progress so far!

I will neaten the top edges and take in the sides a bit more, I will stick some bits on there to give it an edgier look as it looks plain.

Maybe some band badges, jewellery, buttons and threads. Suggestions would be cool.

P.S. I don’t know about you but it feels a little weird that I don’t have to wear clothes I’ve made everyday. I’ll continue to wear them more often!
