Fendi Frills

Hi All,

I cam across this lovely accessory while browsing Kollabora, it’s a Fendi Frill inspired by the designer it’s named after. I thought these looked so bold but feminine and they’d go with dresses as well as shirts so I wanted to try the pattern (which is free).

Well, it’s fair to say I may have gotten carried away.

The punk/goth/Halloween frill (my favourite)!

The punk/goth/Halloween frill (my favourite)!

I made this with what was left over from my Hood Rat Dress, I’d actually wear this one as it’s not too “in your face” and it suits my style. I’ll wear it with whatever colourful clothes I have (which isn’t many).

This is yellow, it didn't show up

This yellow frill is made from fleece, I like how the red thread stands out, and it feels so soft.

The Elf/Christmas frill

Now for the “Christmas Frill”, I originally wanted an all red frill but didn’t have enough felt in that colour so I thought I’d sew up some “Christmas spirit” (ugh… I know it’s early but I’ve typed it now!)

I can see more of these to come, they are quick and simple to sew and you can add whatever you want to them. You can finish the edges for a neater look. As I’ll be a cat for Halloween I want to stitch some cats on the black frill.

I’m also thinking about tiny baubles or buttons for the Elf frill.

I would like to see other people making these because there’s so much that can be done with these.

Sew Red October Tee (WIP)

Posted in Sewing, Tops with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on October 23, 2013 by MontanaDesigns

Hi All,

I didn’t have internet for a while so I couldn’t blog over the weekend but I used that time to edit my photos.

I have wanted a raglan (or skater tee) for for years when I was in school but never got round to buying one. I did recently but then decided that I could make them instead so I could pick the colours I wanted as well as them being cheaper.

I sewn a couple of raglan t shirts using this pattern I printed out, it only comes in size large but I altered it so it’s slightly loose.

The only problem I had was remembering which piece was back and front for the sleeve pieces, next time I’ll mark them (duh). I enjoyed sewing this t shirt so much I made two.

Here’s the red one, it’s not finished yet. I want to wear this now! I just need to cut out a neckband (I cut one out that was too small), here’s a tutorial.

Here’s the completed purple version, I really like this one and I’m pleased with how it turned out. I used red thread for a little detail, I left the hem unturned so it could roll by itself. I’m wearing this as I type, I want to make more of these. My mom also wants one so she’ll picking the fabric she wants soon.

Purple Raglan Tee

I trimmed down the sleeve at the front.

For the sleeve bands I used some I cut off a RTW top

More sewing to come!

Leatherette Shorts

Hi All,

I made these years ago but when I took part in (hashtag) fabricchat on twitter last Friday with host Leila Berton and the topic was leather and pleather. I got talking about a skirt I made for a collection back at college but I can’t find that. I did find a pair of short I made using a self drafted pattern. They are flared so they look a little baggy, when I get time I will alter them so they are more fitted.

The zip’s too long but I’m leaving it this way!

I’m not sure if I’d wear these out unless it’s under a short dress or skirt, I want to wear them but then I have second thoughts. I dunnooo.

I also made these little Batman logos that were made to be earrings, I just need the hooks.

The bat above is made from thicker leatherette that the bottom one.

I’d like to make a leatherette circular skirt as I have a RTW one with pockets. If I can make leatherette shorts and a pencil skirt, I can make a leatherette circular skirt!

Red October Peplum

Hi All,

I’ve wanted to make a peplum or two for a while now, even though it’s something a beginner can do there’s so many different ways to make one. I wanted to a good tutorial to work from.

I was given this fabric by a family friend who used to sew, she gave me a big bag full that I’m working through at the moment.

Here’s my peplum, I’m thinking of cutting it shorter as it looks like a very short skirt.

I took more photos but I either looked grumpy or awkward while posing, I rather just move about than stand there.

I tried making a few from jersey but they were too short and stretched out a lot, I may use a thicker knit fabric. I will be making more of these or refashioning them out of tops.

Red October Skirt

Hi All,

I wonder if all the other Sewcialists are as excited as I am for Red October! I have a few more R.O makes to come but I left one at my house (a peplum) so I’ll have to photograph that another time.

Here is an easy to sew jersey skirt, I drafted the pattern myself from a Winifred Aldridge book (most of my self drafted patterns are from this book, like my leggings), I want to make more structured clothes for Red October soon.

I also cut out and pinned a few Fendi Frills, that I found on Kollabora. I wanted to make a red one but didn’t have enough of it. I decided to make a Christmas themed one instead.

It's early.. I know.

I cut this pattern out in yellow and black too, I may revert to my Batman collection with these.
