Bare Shoulder Beauty

Hi All,

I made a sassy yet elegant dress for a client and friend that wanted it for a ball.

As soon as I saw the pattern she wanted me to use, I recognised it and knew I was going to enjoy making it. Plus I’ve always wanted to sew one of Mimi G Styles patterns (I used BB8045 the plus sized version)

I first sewn a toile (a practice version) to make adjust it after a fitting before cutting the final garment

The adjustments that were required were shortening the length at hem, shortening and taking in sleeves. Then making the midsection wider when cutting the final garment.

Also my client wanted to omit the gathering with elastic on the midsection, which I though was best.

The fabric she picked out for this dress it lovely and looks very similar to the one Mimi used for the cover of the pattern.

Here’s a close up before I attached the band. This is also when I new I wanted to make myself one of these in the shorter version

The final piece, she picked a trim so I could make a matching choker (I like making chokers… a lot!)

I’ve only just become aware that my list of requests/orders has been growing. I’ve noted them down and remembered being asked to make more things while doing the list… I need to be more organised!

Stay creative!

Shimmery Legs: Blue Velvet

Posted in Sewing, Trousers/Shorts/Leggings with tags , , , , , , , , , , on November 28, 2017 by MontanaDesigns

Hi All,

I guess I’ve been sewing non stop as soon as I get home, especially as I was writing on a party dress for a client (I’ll share that in the next post)

Today I’ll be sharing another pair of culottes (or eye leg long shorts) I made! I like making these as they don’t take long, eat to style and extremely comfortable.

They were so quick to make that I wore them the day after I sewn them

I can visualize myself having a pair in every colour at this rate! I’ll also be selling a few too since I’ve been asked a few times.

Speaking of which, I’ve gotten into the habit of making multiples of one garment in different materials. Not only is this a faster, conveyer belt way of sewing but I use u my fabric stash and post/sell garments a lot quicker! Bonuses!

Happy Crafting

Striped Cullotes

Posted in Sewing, Trousers/Shorts/Leggings with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on November 16, 2017 by MontanaDesigns

Hi All,

I wanted to share a pair of cullotes I made last month (I shared pics of them on my Instagram @montanastrange… so I have already posted really)

They are made from jersey and cut from a RTW New Look plisse pair I own. They were so fast and simple to make, I’m not sure why I didn’t make this sooner!

I quickly over locked this just to check the fit but it was great, I left it as it is.

What’s a bit frustrating is I haven’t made another (2/3) pair(s) yet as I’ve been swapped lately. To make it worse I’ve have seen multiple types of fabric that would make great cullotes, I’m told to not but any more fabric until I’ve used my stash… killjoy!!

Until next time crafters,

South Ghost

Posted in Sewing with tags , , , , , , on September 27, 2017 by MontanaDesigns

Hi All,

I haven’t posted for a while due to sewing commitments and a holiday to Germany. We went to celebrate J’s birthday a few weeks ago, it was great and were definitely going again! Enough about that…

I friend of mine is in a band called South Ghost, she gave me their CD along with a patch that has their logo on it. I’d say the have a very 90’s indie/soft grunge sound.

I thought it cool to attach it to a light denim shirt (which was originally J’s, he hardly wore it). I decided to hand stitch it instead of using my machine as it’d look more rough and edgy, I think I did a decent job considering I haven’t embroidered for years now.

It didn’t take long at all as the patch it of small size, I’d say it took me around 15 mins.

I want to add more at some point, I also have a few ideas on doing stitch patterns on some dress necklines. I’ll keep you guys posted when I can

Happy stitching!

The Humbug Crop Top

Posted in Sewing, Tops with tags , , , , , , , , , , on August 27, 2017 by MontanaDesigns

Hi All,

As usual I’ve been busy with other sewing projects (three dresses using McCall’s M7408 sewing pattern), and life in general.

I haven’t sewn for myself for a long time so I’m bringing back an oldie. A striped crop top with a cowl neck attachment and elastic in the hem.

My reason for making this was to test a pattern which I self drafted in college. I’ve been meaning to make another, this will once I find the pattern pieces!

Turban: Beauty Queens, dress: Forever 21, crop top: MontanaDesigns, Vans: Vans store in Prague.

After much deliberation I have decided to keep this, it’s up for sale atm but I’ll be making different coloured replicas instead.

Spotted Mini Collection

Posted in Dresses, Sewing with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on August 3, 2017 by MontanaDesigns

Hi All,

I have been making dresses for a client and I finished them all! This time I made the polka dot Summer dresses, same style but different colours.

I haven’t made anything like these before but I pretty much knew how to. Figuring out how to finish the armholes and hem splits were the tricky parts (I should have taken close up pics on the splits…damn!)

Here’s my “mini collection”!

This is the first one I made which I used as a template for the others.

I had some difficulty about how I would attach and finish the neck tie. I could have tucked in the edges but I liked the rough-ish look, also the former would take longer to execute.

I made this one longer as my client says it’s more elegant, I agree.

I have a smaller size of this one to finish off, its cute on but I’m not sure if I’ll keep it.

This one is my favourite, it’s cute yet spooky looking, like a middle aged version of Kreepsville. This wouldn’t look out of place at a Halloween party (believe me when I say I can make this work!) I may have to make myself one of these now…

She’s ecstatic with these and she’s planned where and when to wear them already. Yes, I am making more dresses for her but I’m having a little break. I may make the odd thing or two for myself though

Stay busy

The Moonlit Skirt

Posted in Sewing, Skirts with tags , , , , , , , , , , on July 24, 2017 by MontanaDesigns

Hi All,

In my last post I mentioned I’d be making another split skirt? I did just that in my favourite colour (besides black) purple!

I made the splits higher as this will be my “night out” skirt, (hench why I’ve called it The Moonlit Skirt) I need at least one! It had to look comfortable but different which is pretty much my style

I’ve been doing weird poses lately I’ve noticed, because why not… embrace them!

It’s fair to say I like these skirts, they look cool, are easy to make and can be dressed up or casually.

I’ll try not to make myself another one, two is enough. The next one I make is for my Depop.

Merry sewing!
