Multi Coloured Scarf

Posted in Hats/Hoods/Scarves, Knitting, Sewing with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on March 2, 2015 by MontanaDesigns

Hi All,

I’m sorry I haven’t been able to post in which seems like forever but work life has taken over, which is great as I have money to spend on fabric… but not much time to actually spend it -_-.

That doesn’t mean I haven’t been able to fit in time to be creative at home, I still have some showing to show you, although I haven’t taken pictures yet and it’s getting ridiculous!

However I managed to bag an order while I was leaving work, I guy commented on how bright and colourful my scarf was. I soon as I told him I made it he wanted me to make him one, I agreed to. I have never spent so long knitting one damn scarf! I was so fed up with it! The worse thing is it looks so much better than the original and it’s longer, to top it all off it’s been months since I last seen my original scarf.

Enough rambling, here’s the foreverlong scarf, I wanted to take photos of it on but I wanted it gone!

The design is simply knitting squares that measure your tension, the usual 4″x4″ instructions you find on the back of the band. The bright chunky wool required casting on 15 stitches and knitting 20 rows.

It wraps around four time and is wide, it covered half my face when I wore it so it dwarfed me (like I need to look any smaller). It’s eye catching but I found it suffocating, maybe that would be because I was wearing it indoors.

When worn how it is shown in the second photo it almost reached my ankles, it wasn’t like I didn’t keep checking the length of it as I went along. I thought I’d play it safe and use just under one ball of each yarn, needless to say my client is a lot taller than me so it’ll look fine on him. He should be more than happy as he wanted it to wrap around three times.

Well I have defeated the scarf demon and now it will find another soul to strangle… that didn’t sound good. It is a cuddly demon so that means something!

The Beth Coat

Hi All,

I have wanted to knit this jacket/coat for a long time now, ever since my mom knitted hers 2 years ago. I wanted to do a test run so I was lucky that she had loads of chunky wool she didn’t want anymore.

The pattern is worked in double moss stitch so it’s textured and warm, I also like the A line shape and bell shaped sleeves. Here’s a link to the book/pattern

I’m showcasing my new bobble hat in the photos too, it’s from the same pattern I made the square hats in my last post.

Here is photographic proof!

Jacket Front

Overlapped split in sleeves, I’ll sew wooden buttons there

I will be looking for some wooden buttons to tie it all together, 3 on the front and 1 on each sleeve.

I made it shorter than the pattern requires

Close on the hat. I want to cover it in skulls

I wore this today and my hairdresser wants a longer version this jacket, which is great! I’m a fast knitter so I’m always looking for something new to do (this took me between 2-3 weeks to make) and I want to make a purple version for myself too.

I should start on sewing a jacket at some point, one step at a time!

Super Chunkys

Posted in Hats/Hoods/Scarves, Knitting with tags , , , , , , , on January 20, 2014 by MontanaDesigns

Hi All,

I have been knitting more hats than I should be because I get bored, also my mom has bought new patterns and has wool to spare.

These hats I’m about to show you took me around half an hour to make without breaks so I made 2 in one day (I made three all together).

This is the first one I made, it's mine

The colours remind me of a teddy bear

The colours remind me of a teddy bear (pic doesn’t do it justice)

This is the knitting pattern I used, I like King Cole patterns as they’re easy to follow and they have a lot of chunky patterns. This one uses super chunky wool but I twisted 2 yarns of chunky, that’s how I got a two tone effect and I made a pompom from each yarn.

I made one for my mom but I didn’t get a photo, when I do it’ll be on my ravelry

Happy crafting!

Baltic Hat

Posted in Hats/Hoods/Scarves, Knitting with tags , , , , , , , , , on January 13, 2014 by MontanaDesigns

Hi All,

I was in need (or want) of an easy chunky hat pattern as I haven’t knitted for a while and I wanted a thick beanie.

As I didn’t have any chunky wool for this pattern I did the usual and twisted two skeins of double knitting together so it added up to chunky…. my mom taught me this trick. I’m using the same trick for a jumper I’m knitting but with black and purple instead of one solid colour.

Back to the hat! I opted for this beanie that is knitted with Baltic yarn in the pic, hence why it is named the baltic hat in the Bergere De France booklet I found it in.

Here’s my version

Ribbed Hat

I used the sea shell effect on Js’ phone in this photo.  It’s bright red really

My mom has bought some really cute super chunky hat patterns that I want to make, they have ears and pompoms… how can I resist?!

Stay tuned for those

Halloween Kitty Hood

Hi All,

I made a kitty hood after finding a pattern and looking at a few tutorials as there as quite a few ways to make ears and a hood. I wanted to post this on Halloween itself but I didn’t have time.

First of all, here is my hood.

Ghost hands!

Kitty Hood 3

This is the pattern I used, I drew round a hood from a hoodie and extended it don’t to a point. after that I added a 1cm seam around all the edges.

Hood Pattern

I decided to use fleece as it’s frigging cold and it’s easy to sew and stretch if needed. This hood is reversible so it can be worn without the ears showing.

I drafted the hood pattern after finding sketches here and found great wolf hat and the video tutorials for the ears here.

I’m currently making a half red, half black one for my mom.. ears included. I wish I thought of that first! for hers I stuck to the big sized ears (I made them smaller for mine) and I’m making them two-toned to match the hood itself.

I can’t what to get it sewn. Oh also made a black fleece beanie for her and I cut out a red one for myself plus I want to make a Pikachu beanie when this is all done. Yes.. I have gone fleece mad!

More to come
