The Humbug Crop Top

Posted in Sewing, Tops with tags , , , , , , , , , , on August 27, 2017 by MontanaDesigns

Hi All,

As usual I’ve been busy with other sewing projects (three dresses using McCall’s M7408 sewing pattern), and life in general.

I haven’t sewn for myself for a long time so I’m bringing back an oldie. A striped crop top with a cowl neck attachment and elastic in the hem.

My reason for making this was to test a pattern which I self drafted in college. I’ve been meaning to make another, this will once I find the pattern pieces!

Turban: Beauty Queens, dress: Forever 21, crop top: MontanaDesigns, Vans: Vans store in Prague.

After much deliberation I have decided to keep this, it’s up for sale atm but I’ll be making different coloured replicas instead.

Sassy in Stripes

Hi All,

Some how, in between sewing for my client, I’ve managed to whip up something from the left over material from one dress.

It is basically a straight tube when laid flat like so:

This has four holes in it, two for the arms to go through, one for your head and another for your torso… just thought I should explain that

I had a few ideas for these pieces before sewingg them, such as centre pieces for bodycon dresses. I sew a LOT of dress so I decided on this crop top!

This is an outfit I’d actually go out in… but where? The chip shop thats where! Do I really need an excuse?

Hat: H&M, Top: MontanaDesigns, Trousers: Forever 21

In these next photos I’m wearing them with black pleated trousers

Trousers: H&M in Prague

Here I flipped the top upside down so it’s more flowy at the top, I would attach straps and thread a string throughout the hem to create gathers

You could wear this with a bra or bikini top as an extra feature or support, there are many ways this can be worn.

I’ll be selling this one but I’ll be making another for myself as I like this so much!

Now it’s back to it

The Birthday Two Piece

Posted in Sewing, Skirts, Tops with tags , , , , on June 26, 2015 by MontanaDesigns

Hi All,

I have been sewing as usual, I just haven’t got around to taking a lot of pictures… this seems to be a regular thing now.

I had a request to make a cute two piece for a friends birthday party in August, these were the photos I was given as a reference.

I was wiling to make the all as the skirts looked simple enough and she could swap the tops, she wanted a version of the last one. I’m thinking of making a version for myself to be honest!

To make sure it fit and she liked it I made a toile, I sent her these pictures before she wore it and she was excited already, I didn’t want to disappoint her at the viewing!

Great news! I didn’t disappoint and she was happy with how it looked, I just needed to adjust the waistband. Here’s how it looks on.

Toile outfit

I used a cheaper version for the toile as I figured I wouldn’t lose out too much, It looks decent but you can tell the difference after looking at the final garment fabric.

As this was a thin, springy type of jersey I ended up having to interface the final garment to make sure it stayed flat. This didn’t take long at all but it’s a lesson for next time.

This is the final garment before I interfaced and hemmed the skirt.

Making Final Outfit

Now finally how it looks on the client, she and her mom were happy with the outcome and now I really want to make my own, slightly different version.

Final Outfit

There are so many options to try with something as simple as this and I have a lot of jersey laying around at the moment to when I have time I’m going to try a few things. Until then I’ve been making my mom a few harem pants which will be posted on here at some point.

Grey Haired Cardigan

Hi All,

I was given the task to knit I fine, mohair type cardigan for my mom as she was having a bit of trouble with it.

I’m working on the borders now but I have photos of the pieces sown together.

FYI: I named it the Grey Haired Cardigan because I think it looks like grey hairs… simplez.

No button here, a knitted flower comes with this. Or I could use a brooch.

This pattern comes with long sleeves.

Raglan sleeves! I like making these.

To knit in this hot weather is new for me but I find it calming, especially when I can’t sleep.

Until next time craft fans!
