Re-Work That Shirt!

Posted in Miscellaneous with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on May 28, 2013 by MontanaDesigns

Hi All,

I have  been looking at a lot of recycling/upcycling clothing books which seem to be popular. I think I’m drawn to them because I have a (good) habit of saving money where ever I can.

I have come across this particular book called Remake It Clothes, it shows fashion designers that have used newspapers and old clothes to make couture garments.

There’s a chapter that demonstrates different ways to wear a shirt without sewing it, so I thought I’d have a go myself.

Halter Shirt

This is the back of the shirt with the sleeves tied in a halter neck fashion.

One Strap

If it was longer this could be worn as a dress.

The front is now the back!

I have only glimpsed through the book, I haven’t bought it yet. When I do I’ll attempt to do everything in it, I need to do a weird and wonderful collection again!

Long Short Dress

Hi All,

I got a new book bought for me, it’s all about recycling old clothes and making clothes out of every day items.

I thought the chapter about using a bra or a corset to build a dress onto is amazing, so I gave it a go myself.

I had a bra with a snapped strap and went to town on that.

Front View

I have hemmed all the frayed edges now so I will get a clear photo taken soon.

Here are stages in stages:

Pinning fabric to bra.

The bra strap opening, I put press studs here.

I attached a circular skirt from some scrap fabric, I really like the asymmetrical effect it has.

Heres a back view.

I have some photos of me wearing this dress in dim light but I think I’ll leave that for another post. I’m going to make a few more of this.

I’m going to make a little tutorial on my kollabora.

Short Wides’ Aplenty

Posted in Sewing with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 8, 2013 by MontanaDesigns

Hi All,

As you may know, I have a new obsession with the Short Wide pattern. I’ve bought new fabric to make more!

Here are the tops and there details.

It sort of looks like an animal print.

This is the third and favourite top I have made from this pattern. It feels so comfortable too.

I used a a small gathered trim in both side seams.

This top wouldn't fit the dummy so I pinned it on.

My mom says they would look nice as dress versions, I’m just trying to figure out how I would change the pattern to do that.

Off Shoulder Top

I made these tops slightly wider than the original pattern so I can wear them in a off the shoulder style.

Well, that’s four tops made from one free pattern… talk about a bargain!

Oh BTW, heres one of many MMM ’13 outfits. Here’s day 10.

Top: Uniqlo; Skirt: Self made; Scarf: self made.

Hi All,

I made a few Short Wide tops lately and I like how quick and simple they are to make. I have made three so far, two of them need to be neatened off. One is on my Kollabora.

Here’s the third one I’ve made (which needs neatening), I’m wearing them with a pair of high waisted leggings I made. I can’t get enough of them, I’m going to make more of them.

It needed a a bit of an iron but I couldn’t wait to post this.

The back is made from organza (it ripped a little but I think that suits my look anyway)

I’ve been seeing a lot about this Me Made Me ’13 thing and I want to give it a go but I didn’t sign up. I decided to go ahead to see if I could wear a me made item everyday for a month, I’m on day three and so far, so good!

It’s great to see the outfits of those that are participating!
